Real life mom talk! One thing I strive for as a parent is to really be intentional with my kiddos. I prioritize experiences and making memories over stuff/things. I value traditions more than I should probably. Sometimes that intentionality turns into pressure to give my kids these magical childhoods and pressure to be the perfect mom. That means dinosaur shaped food, making my kid stand in the rain for an hour to see paw patrol when he's begging to go back to the car, or trying to make my kid play games at chuck-e-cheese when he's crying and terrified of the robotic mouse. Today we had a normal day! We had normal shaped food, read books, watched the land before time, chased each other with dino masks, played hide and go seek, sang silly songs, danced, built things, colored, etc. Nothing special or magical planned by me but when I asked him about our day he went on and on about the songs we sang and how he helped me with my "boo boo" I got on my knee from us showing Sister how to crawl, and how we had to put a bandaid on his stegosaurus who had a spike coming off his back but we helped him. Not "chuck-e scary! He scared me mommy!" or "I stand in the rain, I get wet!" What a wake up call that I am enough for my boy! All he wants is me. In 20 years he may not talk about how he had a magical third birthday but hopefully he'll talk about the little things we get to do everyday together! Feeling extra thankful for the gift to be home with him and be his mommy!
