Ani* is a mother of 5, who was at Medan Kasih last week with her two younger children. They travelled 45 minutes (each way) by train to get their meals. They live with her in-laws, with 5 families living under one roof.
Together with her sister-in-law's family, they sleep on a mattress in the living room. She had a room at the back of her in-law's house but it was damaged by flood recently.
Ani works at a factory, earning RM900 a month. When she's at work and the older siblings are at school, the 5 year old daughter will bathe, feed and care for her 3 year old sister. We were floored when we heard that.
Although she's working, it's difficult for her to make ends meet, and there are days where the children only eat fried flour as their meals. Chicken is a rarity. As part of NEXT, her family has been identified to receive groceries worth RM150 to help ease their burden.
We understand we can't help everybody, but we'll definitely try to do what we can. Your support means a lot to us as it'll help families/individuals in situations like these.
