Day 249: Happy Birthday to the Prince of Liechtenstein!! I learned the Förschtafäscht celebration a couple weeks ago in Italy. Festivals and celebrations make Europe even more fun, so I knew I couldn't miss this.
After meeting a ton of locals, they taught me that this is the most exciting day of the year. The whole country of Liechtenstein, population 36,000, is in the streets to celebrate. Plus a ton of tourist come into town to enjoy the fun.
The Prince gives a speech in the morning, and the rest of the day is a party in the streets of Vaduz. They had a ton of tents selling brats, ice cream, and other foods from the area. The weirdest food I found was horse meat sandwiches.
The highlight of the day is the firework show at 10pm. It was a torrential down pour, a huge storm cell covered the entire country right before the show started.
That didn't stop them. The show must go on for the Prince and it sure was impressive. The fireworks were so loud as the sound bounced off the mountains and clouds. Almost deafening.
After the show, there were various stages with music and parties throughout the city. I met a couple locals who took me under their wing for the night.
Also for only 3 Swiss Franks you can get the stamp in your passport. Definitely worth it!
It was such a fun time in this tiny country!
